So you think you know Copilot?

An exclusive workshop offered by SparkFabrik. An in-depth, hands-on exploration of GitHub Copilot, going beyond simple code auto-completion to reveal “why it works.”

The goal is to provide participants with the skills to integrate Copilot as a true strategic partner in the development cycle within Visual Studio Code.

The workshop, led by Luca Lusso, focuses on understanding the different interaction modes and their practical application. The three main chat modes will be analyzed:

• Ask, for asking questions and brainstorming, without altering code.
• Edit, for modifying open files with user supervision, ideal when changes are clear.
• Agent, the most powerful mode, capable of operating autonomously across multiple files and invoking external tools to achieve a goal.

It will also illustrate how to master the workflow through advanced customization. Participants will learn to:

• Create custom chat modes for specific tasks, such as research or planning, defining the AI’s behavior.
• Manage context through participants (@workspace, @terminal) to direct requests to specific domain experts.
• Define reusable custom prompts, exposed as slash commands to standardize common tasks.
• Set up custom instructions to define best practices and project-level guidelines that are applied to every interaction.
