# Be our spark.

Careers

SparkFabrik was founded in 2015 by people who wanted the workplace they would have chosen for themselves. It still is that workplace: **fully remote from the start**, in open source since 2008, with a public handbook that says how we work.

[Our Playbook](https://playbook.sparkfabrik.com/)

[Open positions](https://www.sparkfabrik.com/en/careers/#posizioni)

Applications

## Open positions.

You apply on our PeopleForce page: a CV, in the format you prefer, and a few lines about you. We do our best to meet everyone who applies.

There are no open positions today.

- [Open application](https://sparkfabrik.peopleforce.io/careers/v/47149-unsolicited-application) (Always open): We always read open applications: send us your CV and a few lines about you. Read the [Manifesto](https://www.sparkfabrik.com/en/the-manifesto/) first: we ask everyone who works here to share it.

How we work

## Our handbook is public.

The Playbook tells how we work, how we grow and how we hire, and we write it ourselves. Read it before you apply: we tell you everything before we meet.

- **[Interviews](https://playbook.sparkfabrik.com/working-at-sparkfabrik/job-interviews)**: What we assess at each step, written before you arrive.
- **[Career](https://playbook.sparkfabrik.com/working-at-sparkfabrik/career-advancement)**: You grow by level and by role in the project.
- **[Impact, not KPIs](https://playbook.sparkfabrik.com/working-at-sparkfabrik/impact-assessment)**: We assess ourselves on what the work produces.
- **[Accountabilities](https://playbook.sparkfabrik.com/organization/accountabilities)**: Five shared accountabilities, then those of each level.
- **[Personal projects](https://playbook.sparkfabrik.com/working-at-sparkfabrik/personal-projects)**: You don't need to ask permission to contribute to open source.
- **[AI at work](https://playbook.sparkfabrik.com/ai-development/overview)**: How we use it, with which rules and who approves.

Beyond the projects

## We also work in public.

We contribute to open source, organise events, take part in the Drupal community and experiment in the Laboratorio. That is also where you see how we work.

- **Open source**: We have contributed since 2008, before SparkFabrik existed: Drupal modules such as WebProfiler and Monolog, and the tools we use to work with AI. [The projects](https://www.sparkfabrik.com/en/open-source/)
- **Our events**: We organise Talks on my Machine and SparkFabrik Connect: the speakers are SparkFabrik people and our partners. [The events](https://www.sparkfabrik.com/en/events/)
- **The Drupal community**: We lead the organization of DrupalCamp Italy and we hosted the Drupal Global Contribution Weekend in Milan. [DrupalCamp Italy](https://www.sparkfabrik.com/en/events/drupalcamp-italy-2026/)
- **The Laboratorio**: The people of SparkFabrik take their ideas all the way to finished software, with the method we use on projects. [The stories](https://www.sparkfabrik.com/en/lab/)

Upcoming events

## Meet us before you apply.

At our events you meet the people of SparkFabrik. Come and listen, and ask your questions.

Hiring

## Three steps, and an answer either way.

The same process is in the Playbook, with what we assess at each step.

1. **We read your CV**: In the format that represents you, with a few lines about you and what you are looking for.
2. **An hour to get to know each other**: Impressions count more than parameters: we need to get on well to work well together. We give you honest feedback within two weeks.
3. **We see you at work**: Depending on the role and your experience, a technical interview and an exercise to see you work in our environment. It is not a school exam.

What you get

## The terms, in writing.

- **Permanent contract.** (Contract) Italian national collective agreement for commerce (CCNL Commercio), fourteen monthly salaries, level based on skills and responsibilities.
- **Your desk, at home.** (Workstation) Laptop, display and kit ready from day one, and a yearly contribution for your home office.
- **Studying is work.** (Learning) Certified courses and exams paid for, with two attempts, and a bonus when you certify within the agreed time. Video courses and books open to everyone.
- **On stage, too.** (Conferences) We send you to conferences and events across Europe, preferably as a speaker.

## Frequently asked questions.

### Do you really work remotely?

Yes, 100%: the people who work with us live in Italy and abroad and work from home. The Milan office, at Via Fara 9, is open to anyone who wants to work or meet there, but it is not required. On your first day we like to meet in person and hand over your devices.

### Are working hours fixed?

No. The reference hours are 9:30 to 18:30, but each team and each person organises their own day. We ask you to be there during the core hours, 10:30 to 16:30.

### Do you offer other contracts besides a permanent one?

For people at their first jobs we can offer an apprenticeship. We also work with freelancers, if you prefer, only on an ongoing basis and preferably on the way to hiring. We do not work with on-call contractors.

### What other benefits do you offer?

A health fund for specialist visits, dental care and diagnostics at reduced prices, and a catalogue of discounts reserved for the people who work here.

### Do I need to speak English?

Yes, enough to hold part of the interview in English: documentation, clients and the community require it.

### Can I apply from abroad?

Yes. The [Playbook](https://playbook.sparkfabrik.com/working-at-sparkfabrik/hiring-from-abroad) explains how people living outside Italy work with us, and how we help you if you want to move.

### Can I use AI in my application and in the exercise?

Yes, as you would use it working with us: tell us where and how you used it. You answer for the result.

## A question before you apply?

Write to [jobs@sparkfabrik.com](mailto:jobs@sparkfabrik.com). The person who looks after people at SparkFabrik answers you.
